RBS Gold Cards

:money: Hi all,
I hope you don't mind that my very first post is to ask a question! Anyway, I recently went to the bank (RBS) to try to organise my finances.
At present, I have the following:
- Graduate account (with £2,000 overdraft limit - never really been out of this!)
- Graduate loan (of about £2,700, paid down to £1,400 or so by now without missing a payment)
- Credit card (£1,400/£1,700 - slow with a payment over a year ago).
Sadly I believe my credit rating to be pretty poor as a result of all the above, having moved houses fairly frequently and not having been on the electoral roll for a while. My salary can however comfortably sustain all these payments and I do qualify prima facie for the gold card (aged over 21, income over £25,000)
I am now aiming to pay off the overdraft and graduate loan with some money I have received, and have also opened up an ISA and a second current account with them into which I pay small, regular amounts.
Anyway, at the time the chap at the bank was trying to offer me loans and such, and after having credit checked me, said I was eligible for a gold card. Not having heard anything since, I rang the RBS credit card people today to see what was happening, and I was told I had been declined for the gold card (for 'scoring reasons') and am struggling to understand why this was so, when only a week ago it was good enough for a £5000 loan and a gold card? Should I seek to appeal?
And now that I would essentially have a clean slate with the bank (i.e. only the loan left) - should I move bank?
Many thanks!
