Take a look at the Caxton card as they don't impose an atm charge. The downside is that their conversion rates are poorer than FairFX. The cutoff where atm charges are offset by the poorer rate is around €200 per atm withdrawal. If you take out less at a time the Caxton is a slightly better bet but check the limit on the number of cash withdrawals you can make per day and per week.
Don't even think about Travellers Cheques, some EU banks refuse to cash them, or charge massive fees for doing so, that's how bad they are. Also be aware that many shops etc don't like €50 notes if you are only spending a few euro at a time as they are heavily counterfeited.0 -
Thought it would be lower than that - they charge about 2% on loading (ie 2% less than interbank rate). The cutoff where atm charges are offset by the poorer rate is around €200 per atm withdrawal.
I use the Caxton for emergency funds - advantages for me are that you don't have to consider exchange rates as you have a set number of euros with no charges for ATM use, and probably the best for small withdrawals (€40/80 a time).0 -
I'd get a second pre paid card in case you lose 1.
Cash I ask why your taking 700£ between you ?0 -
-
Are you enquiring if £700 is too little, or too much?
£700 between 2 people over 8 days is £43.75 per day per person spending money for sightseeing, souvenirs and food?
Depends how extravagant/economical you want your trip to be.
Students in Amsterdam ?
Sightseeing,souvenirs and food ?
Yeah,right.

I said before in other threads that a prepaid card (visa/mastercard) is ok to pay hotels/hostels, but most shops/bars/pubs in the Netherlands only accept Pinpas and cash. And don't exchange pounds in Amsterdam because they'll rip you off.0

I think STA does some kind of pre pay card? Don't know how it compares to others though.0
