Adding 'self-employed' driver to my car insurance

Hi, I want to add another driver to my insurance.
He's late 30s with a clean licence and is self-employed; will this categorisation adversely affect my quote? From my experience, adding an extra older driver with a clean record reduces the insurance premium, but the insurers may not like the working title?
Please advise, regards.

Depends what he's self employed as0

Surely it depends on whether they ask the employment of the driver. They did not when I added my BIL.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Self-employed builder/property maintenance etc.0

Do dummy quotes online with and without the named driver being added to see what difference it makes to the premium.0

I'm self-employed and the insurance is not a problem. The industry is more likely a factor (self-employed publican anyone?) than the status of being self-employed.
There is no harm in asking for a quote - it's not like it is worth lying as in the event of an accident you don't want to come unstuck.0 -
I think a lot will depend on the purposes he will be insured for.
If he's covered for just SDP, then I doubt it will make much difference.
If he's covered for business use (especially if it's class 2 or higher), then it will probably make a fair amount of difference.0 -
No, it'll just be personal use.0
