FlyBe compensation offer

Hi, I was recently successful in receiving an email from FlyBe offering me 'voucher' compensation to the value of GBP 300 / 350 Euro.
However, after reading the MSE notes, I replied back to FlyBe asking them to compensate me in cash/cheque and not in vouchers.
They have since replied, now offering only 250 Euro via bank transfer.
Are they allowed to offer less because I have asked not to receive vouchers ?

Yes they can, the maximum cash compensation under the EU ruling is €250. The offer of a flight voucher for more than tgat is designed to make you take the offer. It costs the airline nothing to offer you a free flight, they cover it in their pricing structure0

Hi,
After being offered £300/€350 in flight vouchers, I contacted flybe to ask for £200 cash.
They have replied and only offered €250 which is of course only £180 at the current exchange rate. Am I within my rights to say I will take the £200 or is €250 the maximum I could get?

Since the majority of Flybe flights are short, they fall into the category of 250 Euros compensation under EU261 and the amount is fixed. Of course if you fly them regularly the vouchers might be a better deal but I suspect they hope people accept the vouchers and never use them0

Alan is correct. EU261 fixes compensation in Euros, as the currency the vast majority of European nations use. Obviously with the UK using £, the amount of our compensation will vary based on exchange rates.0 -
Thanks guys, just thought I'd double check before taking it!0

Yes I'm sure, for flights up to 1500km 250 is the max.0
