PS3 to modem

My modem is in the same room as my TV and PS3. For a better connection when playing FIFA is my only option to connect the PS3 to the modem by cable, which would mean cable length of about 30 -35 ft along the skirting board?

TIA for any help.

The recommended maximum distance for an Ethernet cable (cat 5+) is 100m so your 30' is well within acceptable distances.

Thanks for that. Is that the best and cheapest way rather than the Homeplug option? If so what sort of cable would you recommend?

    Thanks again

Any generic CAT5/6 cable with plugs on will be OK. Homeplugs would be fine as well. Go for the easiest/cheapest for you.

Cable the will be the fastest and most stable to use. And usually the cheapest as well.

The only issue is you have to run the cable, which is the reason for homeplugs

Tried both on my PS3, and the solution was not to play Fifa online. Joking aside, if you are only having trouble with that game, your Wi-Fi is probably fine. Most uses of PS3 are fine with wireless, it's Fifa that's usually the problem. In the past I've streamed HD movies and never had a single buffering issue, but try playing a game of Fifa on PS3, and it's like I have got an old dial up connection. The homeplug thing was okay for me but did cause interference with the radio for some reason, so stopped using it. Only had any joy with Fifa when it was connected directly via Ethernet cable. PS4 is much better.

Even without buying online a 10m preterminated cable (cat 5e) should be £10 or less. Online it will be a few pounds + P&P

A direct cable will always be better and normally cheaper its just most people dont want lots of cables going around their house or drilling holes etc to get it into the walls/ between floors etc hence homeplugs are in existence.

    Then you need an electrician.
