Automated Payment Question

What are the automated payments called that use card details to take a fee instead of bank details. In my case it's a gym membership. Is it just an automated payment? I'm sure I've heard it called something else.
Standing orders and direct debits are set up with bank details if I remember correctly.
Do they have any impact on your credit rating? Does keeping up with them improve it like DD and SO?
Thanks in advance.

They do not show on credit files (neither do DDs and SOs, really) but if you have insufficient funds in your current account, you may end up with markers against your current account on your credit file.0 -
