How can I measure how much gas I'm using?

Morning All,

I've recently been looking at Kwh to work out how much it costs to run certain electrical appliances in my home.

I wondered if the same could be done for gas products such as radiators and the cooker.

Thanks, is there also a tool that could calculate how much 'x' radiator would cost to run at 'x' temp for 'x' amount of time?

A 3kW radiator will produce 3kW of heat when fully on.

However, you'll need to allow for other inefficiencies. e.g. your boiler may only be 60% efficient, especially if it is one with a pilot light. That would mean it would burn 5kW of gas to produce 3kW of heat.

There are other inefficiencies to consider too, such as heat lost in the pipework, although of course such heat is being used to heat your home anyway.

But where do you find ratings for gas radiators?

Electric items tend to have things in black and white stamped on them but, to be fair to the OP, gas goods are more obfuscatory.

You need to refer to the manufacturer's or retailer's literature.
