  • In typical life fashion, I start on the frugal drive and then my laptop breaks! This is being typed from DH's ipad. He is attempting to format it all from scratch so hopefully I will avoid having to get a new one. I need a laptop for second job, which is due to start in a couple of weeks.

    Sigh.

I will be back to update properly when I can type again.

Vinegar and bicarbonate worked wonders on our oven. Might be worth a try.

Was about to suggest tuition as a way of upping your income getting your older child to look after your younger in another room in the house. Then I read the amount of hours you put in at work so hard to see how you'd find the time. Going for promotion might be your best bet

    Good luck with your goals!

Thanks Courgette. I'm definitely thinking about tutoring. I've done a bit in the past. My main barrier at the moment is DH's commute, unless I do weekend tutoring. Not sure how he would feel about this though - he is very frustrated about my job already! For the next 3 months I will be working massive days and all weekends as I will be both moderating and examining externally on top of a full teaching timetable, A level and GCSE students of my own to sort out and additional responsibility at work over class teaching. Really hoping to make some good additional £££ though to put on CC. DH knows we need the money and I get the opportunity to pick up extra work that he doesn't. At the end of the day, we have booked a family holiday (first in a while) and we know that means sacrifice, mainly mine :D:D, although he suffers the housework alone for a few weeks :D.
  • DH seems to have fixed the laptop. Here's hoping as that is definitely a cost I can do without.

So far, clean is much slower than I'd hoped, but we've been chipping away at it over the last few days. We also had a minor victory by being tempted to get a takeaway, but made food at home instead which is quite a win for us :T. We've certainly stuck to lists when top-up shopping. As we're away this weekend at parents', we are not doing a big shop as I would normally.

Generally, we are looking good. Just need to keep on keeping on and FORCE myself to start doing something about the mega pile of work I've brought home. It took me 3 trips to get it all in the car!

I got my first moderation email today...
  • Alchemilla it's the first time I've done it, so I'm sure it is going to be slow and painful! I have all of my folders to annotate and get in good order by the end of the holiday so that they are ready to go for my own sample before I start calling other schools'.

I have a poorly DS so deep cleaning progress is grinding to a halt. It also means we are stuck inside, which is very frustrating as it would be nice to get out and go for a big walk. He's been running a fever for over a day now. :(
Hopefully he will shake it today and we can still get away tomorrow to parents' as planned.

Need to force myself to use today constructively and do some work! Gah!

I'm also finding diet quite tough this week. I think it's because there is a lot of chocolate in the house and I'm feeling very tired. Last night was really rough with DS. I must resist.
  • Fell off the diet wagon big-style yesterday :(. Think I just got so fed up with things. DS has been really poorly for a few days, we've had to postpone going away to parents' house as he's not well enough. I spent the whole day up to my eyes in marking, but hardly scratching the surface of everything that I need to do. By the evening, I found myself in the supermarket buying pizza and ice cream so a fail for sticking to both the diet and the meal plan.

To say it is the holiday, I feel incredibly tired. Determined to do better today. Will also try and get outside for a bit so that I get some air and clear my head. Hoping DS perks up so we can go away tomorrow. It is very rare DH gets time off with us as he is entitled to minimal holidays and we often use them up on school events or children being ill. This is the first full week he's had off in over a year.

Also, I'm tense because DH had an interview yesterday for a job closer to home and I'm really, really hoping he gets it. It would make him so much happier as he has a huge commute which grinds him down. Keeping everything crossed that we have some luck with this.

I will do some more work today given that we can't really go anywhere with DS. I also need to get my crochet out. I haven't done any in months. It is good for my soul so I need to get back into it rather than just plodding resentfully through my workload and thinking about going to the shop for chocolate. :o

    Thanks x :):)
  • Best laid plans and all that.

Ended up in hospital with DS. He has nasty tonsillitis, so our week together has been spent indoors, administering antibiotics and checking temperatures. He's run a fever nearly all week with it :(. Hopefully he is on the mend, but we've all been really dragged down by him being unwell to the point that much comfort food has been bought and we finally succumbed to takeaway last night :(. I think it comes from a week of very broken sleep. I always end up trying to eat away tiredness. I am a bit cross with myself.

Today is the day I get a grip and start to try and get everything back in order. I've gained a few pounds and spent a few too, so time to reel it back in and make a fresh start. Did a shop to tide DH over for his first week back at work and I hope to be able to get away to my parents' for a few days next week. I also have the monumental pile of work to deal with, but focus today is on home and eating well. I might do some marking later.
