Ebay check out and advice

If you buy items from a seller and he has no discounted postage option but you feel you would like to ask, ebay make you COMMIT to buy prior to getting a total?
Surely the 'request total' button should be before you commit to buy?
Obviously the sellers make every excuse under the sun. If you commit to buy BEFORE you get an offer of any discount, most buyers will just say you agreed now pay up?
Yes, you could PM them, but if you have 22 items in your basket, can you imagine how complicated it would get to explain what you are buying and discounts offered etc?!?!?!?
Surely a link direct to the seller from your basket requesting a discount for bulk or postage is required BEFORE you commit to buy?
What does the law say about agreed price and postage? Surely that must be agreed prior to committing to purchase?
I would link a raging argument ongoing on the ebay forums but alas, you for some reason do not allow me to post links

Add items to basket and press request total from seller button.
As for the law, the price of the item and postage is displayed - by pressing commit to buy, you're committing to pay that price. Any reduction in the postage price needs to be arranged before pressing buy it now, however inconvenient you find it.0 -
Don't expect a discount and you won't have a problem. Or buy from someone with "free" postage.0

If the buyer doesn't want to discount then there is not much you can do. I am not really sure there is any law you could use to force them. I have large items that I sell. Due to the size it is actually cheaper to send them separately than finding a more expensive courier that is willing to take a big parcel. I have tried to set up automatic postage discounts and apart from doing free postage on additional items on the same listing, it never seems to work properly and requires me to manually send an invoice.
Most decent sellers will answer your questions about combined postage. If they don't then I would really consider if I want to buy from someone who can not be bothered to reply to messages.0 -
Ironic nobody answers the question but thanks for your opinions!!!
So still non the wiser if this is legal to put a request total after a commit to buy!!!
As for commit to buy, you have a legal right of cancellation without penalty which seems to be swept under the carpet on ebay. Don't pay you are punished with a strike of failure to pay. Which only goes to prove, they are a law unto themselves!
I will go with what I feel and that is, there is no legal requirement to commit to a purchase prior to buying and this directly breaks the law demanding you commit to buy before getting any such total. Regardless of peoples opinion about prices listed, some buyers are simply unaware how to list a discounted postal service on ebay as the new simplified listing performas DO NOT have this service within them! Not to mention, the buyer is perfectly within his legal right to ask regardless of the listed price!!!
The listed price actually has no bearing what so ever on the consumers right to request a goods and postage total prior to check out, if he feels it is a hefty price and could or should be discounted. It is then up to the seller to offer this or decline and for the buyer to decide to buy or not.
To be forced to commit to this must lose them considerable sales, not to mention the legality of the matter!0 -

As above, you need to communicate with the seller.
If the seller is willing to combine postage, then it will say so in their auction. You can then just contact them before buying to get a postage quote.
You then have a "legally" binding amount agreed, so can then request the total.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

What law are you referring to?
As others have said, and will continue to say, committing to bid is entering a contract with the buyer. There is no law that says a seller must reduce postage if more than one item is bought, unless you can show me otherwise.
What did your seller say when you contacted them?0
