Will all of this affect my credit rating?

Hi all,

I have just bought a house which obviously required a credit check, my insurance and energy companies also said they did a credit check on me, is this a full credit check? I am wanting to open a joint bank account with my fianc! and also switch my own current account to a new bank, will my bank applications get rejected due to the previous credit checks on me due to my new house? Before all this i had a very good credit rating and have zero debt apart from the mortgage.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Hello there,

You say your Insurance and Energy Suppliers performed a credit check on you... Are these new accounts or existing agreements?

It's more than likely an Identity check rather than a full credit search per se. However I know Utility Companies report account conduct to some of the three credit agencies within the UK (I can't recall from memory who does; it's posted here on MSE somewhere).

Have you actually moved in yet with your Fianc!? And updated your details on the Electoral Register?

I stand corrected if I've advise you wrongly here but have you considered switching your Current Account and opening the Joint Account if you are still living at your old address(es)?
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

The accounts are all new accounts i was not an existing customer, we will still both be on the electoral roll at our previous addresses as we have not yet changed that.

If you are unsure about them being "hard" credit searches rather than identity checks then you could sign up to Noddle which is free (it does ask for a card number but this is merely for verification purposes).

Under the "searches" section it'll appear like this:

    Insurance Initiatives Limited (Iq)
Insurance Quote Id - Compare Site/Broker/Renewal
    Identification Check

(Obviously the name of the Utility/Insurance companies in your case)

Seeing as you are still on the Register at your previous addresses I'd switch your Current Account now as Lenders prefer stability and that'll go in your favour.
