Wickes Kitchen Cupboards

Options
Just had a quote from Wickes to supply & fit additional kitchen wall cupboards to match the ones we already have.

To fit a corner wall cupboard & a large double wall cupboard, Wickes quote £1300. To be clear, that's just the fitting cost. (Total for supply & fit is around £2200.)

Any thoughts? Sounds unbelievably extortionate to me. Surely it can't be that lengthy or difficult a job?

That's what they've quoted. Approx £950 to supply only or £2250 to supply & fit.

    Oh my life............

That has to be a typo , £130-00 is probably more like it if they are just coming out to fit 2 units..

£13-00 is more like it if they are fitting an entire kitchen.............

EDIT: They must be great quality cupboards for £950-00, Great quality and Wickes aren't usually written in the same sentance ....... ( inserts roll eyes smiley)

    No, not a typo.

The price for the cupboards is actually their sale price, with big discounts! See http://www.wickes.co.uk/tivertonbonetoorder

    Yeah they are pricey.

You could probably buy the stuff elsewhere cheaper and get it fitted for a couple hundred.

Job should easily be less than a grand.

Wickes are stupidly expensive on small installs, this is because like other major retailers the is a one size fits all policy when it comes to pricing installation.

Therefore there is the same admin fee, the same rip out your old one fee whether anything is being ripped out or not, the same size hippo bag to put it in, whether your kitchen is three units or thirty three units. Hence the ridiculous charge for a small job like yours. The larger the job, the more competitive it gets. But for three units, get someone else to it.

Alternatively, if the original kitchen was a Wickes fit, if you still have the fitters number, call him and he will probably do the job for a fraction of the cost privately.

Either way £1300 is crazy for a couple of units. Wickes ask the DC's to quote for installing everything. The DC's know it is crazy as well!

Easy job for a kitchen fitter / carpenter / joiner.

Buy the unit and then get one of them to fit it. Should be a tenth of the Wickes quote.

    Nailed it.

Get the units in and have them fit independently.

You might be in a bit of trouble here: newer Wickes units are 14mm thick as opposed to the 18mm they used to be. Don't expect it to last.

    Utter rubbish!

Wickes still do 18mm units , they also do cheap 15mm ones off the shelf.

18mm is only the back panels, 18mm Wickes carcasses no longer available. If you request 18mm, it will be supplied by Montrose.

The only thing that's rubbish is your comment (and very likely all your previous contribution) judging by the ignoramus you are.
