Money management Software

Hi Guys,

Since Microsoft money seems old and now unsupported, what good alternatives are availbel for managing personal finances.

I want something that will automatically drag info in from my online banking so I can categorise spends fore cast and generally track my money.

Thanks

Scott

Old and unsupported it may be but there is nothing better.

    Agree nothing better

if you automate transactions in the budget you don't need the download feature.

a regular manual consolidation of accounts is much better for managing finances.

And another. Although I wouldn't personally trust software to interrogate my bank accounts, I manually reconcile all of my accounts.

While MSMoney doesn't automatically drag info in from your bank, it can import transactions if your bank can export .QIF files.

Money manager is free and sync between phone and desktop.

You Need a Budget is very good.

I can't post a link as I am a "new user" - despite being registered since May 2009. - just Google You Need a Budget.

Can also get an app for your phone and it syncs all the data so anything you put on your phone will display on computer etc.

There's a case to be made that the effort to key in spend might make you think a bit more, but your choice seems to be between standalone (with or without auto-download) or online. The whole concept of online gives me the willies - what on earth could go wrong with a system logging into your bank accounts  but it seems the way this is going

TheFIrestarter's writeup of moneydashboard makes a good case for that online.solution

I tried Money Dashboard and found its performance awful. I also tried a bit of YNAB (even bought the licence) and liked it much better than Money Dashboard.

But in the end I stuck with Microsoft Money as none of the new tools could import my decade worth of data, and none of them offers me any functionality over and beyond what MS Money gives me. Also, most of the 'modern' ones seem to be struggling with more than a couple of accounts and don't really have any concept of investments (as opposed to savings).
