which card to withdraw euros in Italy?

I have a Santander 123 debit card, a BoS Vantage debit card, a Halifax Reward debit card, a Nationwide FlexAccount debit card, a Nationwide FlexDirect debit card and a TSB debit card.


The only accounts that have any money in them are the Santander, Bos Vantage and TSB accounts.


The Nationwide Flexaccount has no balance, only used for travel insurance and the Nationwide FlexDirect has come to the end of it's life.


What is the cheapest debit card to use to get euros from an ATM in Italy?


I might not actually need euros as my trip is all paid for, I just need to buy drinks at night and I have €140 left from a previous trip.


Then again will €140 be enough for a couple for 14 days?

The cheapest are Metrobank's N&P's ones that you don't have. Also, there are good credit cards for this.
From your cards I guess it's Nationwide one.

The fees and charges for overseas use will be found on their respective websites...probably in a documents called "fees and charges".


I have the same accounts as you and would also be interested in which was the best card to use out of those. Please could you report back when you've completed your research.

Your nationwide accounts charge 2% + £1 for an atm withdrawal so are the cheapest of the ones you have. There are cheaper, as the other posters have said, if you are happy to open another account elsewhere.


For 140 euro it might not be worth the hassle of opening another account. But we found in Italy a lot of places wanted cash so you may well need more than you thought.


If spending on your card the nationwide one is the cheapest of the ones you have too, at 2% fee, but you may have a credit card that charges less. Try the travel money link on the main moneysavingexpert site. I think some of your debit cards are 'cards from hell' that charge a per transaction fee as well as a percentage fee for debit card purchases as well as ATM withdrawals.

So it will not be that cheap. Depending on what you want to do, I really doubt €140 will be enough. Southern Italy is usually cheaper.
