Ripped off by VirginMedia?

Hi all.
I've just discovered that for months... if not well over a year VirginMedia have been charging me a rate far higher than current tariffs. Tariffs with even more than myself are less money.
Years ago I was treated poorly by VirginMedia, they apologised and arranged a combo deal (not that much of a deal). This deal was broadband (since been upped to 100mb), TV (100 channels) V+ HD box (really old now, not TIVO) and basic weekend phone package for £52.30 a month. Plus the £16.99 rental this is now £69.20 before i do anything.
This is more expensive than their Big Kahuna package that comes with TIVO, 152mb broadband and 230+ channels. Which is £49 + £16.99.
They have never called to tell me prices have dropped.
Now of course I am going to call and change tariff. But do I have any leg to stand on with regards claiming back money over the past months? Is it not their duty to at least bring me inline with an existing deal and updated hardware?

They will charge you whatever they can get away with and you can't argue with it.
YOu aren't entilted to what new customers get.
The only way is to ask to leave, you may then get a reduction on future charges0 -
Yeah... i thought as much. Will go in 'nicely'. I'm out of contract anyway.0

Don't shoot the messenger, but I thought I'd mention this since it's sort of relevant. I had a Virgin Media technician in today to fix my phone line, and he said that they're aware that loads of customers could be on the new deals and saving money, but have their contact preferences set to "Do not contact me", so Virgin don't contact them and let them know.
I entirely advocate phoning them once the minimum term is up and telling them you're off to Sky though. Do your research first and tell them how much more Sky would give you for what you pay VM every month, then put the ball in their court.
Good luck! :money:© Cuilean 2005. Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.0 -
The Virgin Media Retention thread is a good place to see what good offers customers have managed to get.;)

On the contrary, many businesses (and VM are certainly not unique in that respect) rely on customer apathy and laziness in order to boost their profits. Home insurance, motor insurance, landline and mobile telcoms businesses all have millions of customer who pay more than they need to. Almost the only sector regulated in this respect is the gas and electricity sector.
VM haven't ripped you off-you've done it to yourself. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
