CCUSA - advice please

My daughter is working for CCUSA (like Camp America) near Lake Michigan this summer.

Has anyone any experience of this company - they seem reputable & long lived.......

Also, has anyone got any advice for her - what is best way for her to take money, how to phone home (buy a mobile out there, take a USA suitable sim card etc?

Cheers all!

Hi, I did a summer camp (camp america) in up-state new york in 2000. My advice is take a sleeping bag with a hood. Nights get very cold. I took ear plugs & eye mask for peace at night and on nights off. A walk man is a must. We got issued with phone cards which we could top up. Did most of contact through internet at libarys.

It is hard work, very long hours and normally very basic living conditions.

Is your daughter hoping to travel after camp? If she is, she should join YHA. Trains & buses over there are good. We travelled across america with a car sevice. You drive someones car for them from say Washington to Georgia. You have 6 days to do it in. It's good fun and free and you can stop off where you like.

Also if you have any distant relatives she can crash with, that's a great idea too. Mine relatives were the most welcoming, as were all their friends.

I made some lovely friends from all over the world. It is a great learning experience and 6 months out there has given me so many happy memories that will last a life time.

Thanks for this - will def. tell her to take ear plugs as she hates getting woken up!
Will also tell her to investigate driving car, and YHA.

    Think I could go too?
