Personal Export Scheme, emigrating & address abroad
We've hit a bump in our export plans. We're emigrating to NZ and want to take a car with us. The plan was, save 20% on a new or VAT-qualifying car at this end, pay 15% VAT at the other end, and the difference covers the shipping, sort of.
Found a great VAT-qualifying car, and a tolerant salesman who sent off the VAT410 form. But we'd used the office address in NZ, as we've no residential address yet, and HMRC have said that's no good; we need to have a residential address and to prove that it's ours.
Mention has been made of us still being able to export, but only if the exporters pick the car up from the dealership and we don't drive it. (I'm assuming this is a normal export process and not the PES, under which we'd normally be able to drive the vehicle for 6 months prior to export).
Anyone know how to square this circle so we can still use the PES?
