If you read the question, they are not planning to.
I wouldn't trust a nas either.
Whoopsy daisy did you just drop that nas on concreteDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -
I don,t trust computers either , but when stuck I would use the best option , and not a £49.99 device that has a track record of going &I&s up
everyone to there own ,
bsod , Nas drives are plugged into the mains , your comment "Whoopsy daisy did you just drop that nas on concrete"
is about the same as Whoopsy daisy did you just drop that sky box on concrete"
have a nice day bsod ,0 -
I have a number of these devices, going back decades. None has ever gone tits up, or been dropped onto concrete, but they have all survived an earthquake and are far less prone to unintentional data loss than a nas.Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0

Neither I do completely, that's why my family photos get encrypted and auto backed to cloud storage. Depends how precious your family memories are doesn't it ?
PS always wondered why the business world only back up using USB drives and not RAID, Hmmm they must be missing a trick somewhere ?Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
I stopped using computers because of this problem , I now use paper and a crayon.
there is no best backup , everyone has to do the best within there means , a single backup device is no use to 4 separate people , they need a device EACH , carrying a portable drive around to 4 locations is asking for problems and the loss of 4 lots of data.
buy 4 x cheap USB portable drives and start going to church0 -

The question came from a home user wanting to backup a few photo's, this diversion into nas/raid solutions and what a business may use (which varies wildly) is silly.Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -
BSOD , the OP said 4 users , not an old granny with her holiday snaps
so not a diversion , a genuine suggestion (better) was put forward by fightsback and myself.
I could go on to elaborate that I would recommend 4 usb drives and a central NAS drive to cope with usb drive failures ,
that would be an improvement , however the cost could be prohibitive .0 -
so now you're suggesting buying 4 usb drives (£160-£200) that supposedly last no more than 12 months if your facts are correct, along with a nas drive costing how much £340 with drives? (for what purpose I can't imagine, the users are in a different place), lets call it £500. Add in running costs of a 24/7 nas, it's getting expensive.
or
1 or 2 portable usb drives, to backup the lot - £35-£80. and most importantly originals left on the c: drives.
Maths corrected freddy.Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -
no I,m retracting my suggestions (seeing as you cannot add up) and leaving it up to you , with your font of knowledge to suggest a more practicable way,
please bare in mind , that when there equipment fails , they will come back to you , asking to retrieve there files.
I,m out of it ,
OP listen to BSOD , he says he,s the expert0
