Does Household Insurance cover items lost away from the home?

Hi,
My daughter managed to lose her Nintendo DS and games whilst visiting her friend. Does anyone know if we would be able to claim this on our household insurance or are all insurances different?
Thanks for any advice

Best to check your policy documents.0 -
Usually there is a "personal possessions" section on most policies as standard and usually it's around about £3K.
It's for things like sports gear, watches etc. that you would commonly take out of the house.
What you need to ask yourself is whether it's worth claiming.
There will be an excess to pay and your pemiums will be higher in future years because you've made a claim.
If it's around the £200 mark then I would guess it isn't worth it.
You should check the policy excess, check what you can replace the item for and possibly get some quotes off the internet both with and without a claim to see the effect it will have (it could have an effect for several years).
Usually it's not worth claiming for "small" amounts because you get stung on future premiums but the question is, how much is "small".0 -

Just to point out....... Personal Possessions isn't usually standard with your mainstream insurers, so you will need to check whether you have it in force or not.0 -
Previous claims on personal possessions don't normally count against your future premiums. When you take out insurance you'll normally only be asked about contents and buildings claims, not personal possessions.0

Personal possessions is part of a contents policy, therefore a contents claim.0 -

As there is some disagreement then I would check before you claim.
I don't recall seeing specific questions about claims during quotations.
Only general questions like "How many claims have you made".
But do check as it's you that's has to pay, not the people on this board.0
