Cheap ATM use in Spain

Trying to figure out the cheapest way to withdraw cash at ATMs in Spain.
I've found a list of all banks with various charges and only I think Metro Bank and Peterborough BS not charging. I don't have an account with either though.

I am a Santander 123 current account holder and it seems to me that using a Santander bank to withdraw cash would then be free if I understand the Santander terms and conditions correctly. Can anyone conform this?
Can I also pay for items in a shop with a Santander debit card without charge?

Thanks.

Why are you worried about ATMs only? What about purchases and credit cards that don't charge for them (not to mention those that don't charge for ATMs either)?

I can't confirm, but the T&C seem to be very clear to me:
Withdrawal from a Santander cash machine in Spain Free
Currency conversion for using a Santander cash machine in Spain Free
Can I also pay for items in a shop with a Santander debit card without charge?
Yes, this is an important question. And the answer is:
Currency conversion for using your Visa debit card abroad, online or in a currency other than sterling
    2.75% of the value
Buying goods and services abroad (not cash withdrawals) and in a currency other than sterling
    £1.25 for each transaction
    General Terms & Conditions

Just back from Spain and can confirm, using Santander debit card from a Santander atm is free. Must be a Santander atm though!

Enjoying this post with Grouchy and Grumbler chatting to each other... both seem quite friendly too....:)

Thanks for all the replies, that confirms what I thought, sorry for trouble. Have checked and luckily have a Santander bank not far from where I'm staying.
And yes, I'm not really grouchy, well not often ;)
