Switching from RBS

Hi ,
I am thinking of switching my current account with RBS (mainly to gain from the switch offers out there offering cash).
I have been with RBS for 40 years.
Do you think it would be worth calling them to see if they would match the amount i could get for switching from other banks?
Anyone tried this?
Thanks in advance.

I would, it's now competition to see what they can offer a loyal longstanding customer, good luck-X-Missima-X-0

Actually, whilst it can't hurt to ask them about a switch match (let us know if that does work!), my preference would be to keep the 40 year old account, open a couple more RBS accounts online and add a couple of direct debits for switching to where you want to go to.
I was very impressed with RBS and how easy and efficient everything was.
I (and others) don't like Yorkshire's website and having to use the token and so on, and will be switching from them as soon as a couple more incentives have happened. Many complaints about Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks on various websites.
There have also been complaints about M&S and the Co-op, so if you have an account you are happy with, I'd stay with them
I'll be switching (one of) my Yorkshire accounts to my existing main Halifax account for the monthly £5 reward (I'm ineligible for the switching incentive).0 -
Happy to be proved wrong but I can't see how this would work - if, for the sake of argument, they agreed to credit you with, say, £100, what would stop you asking again next week/month/year and how could they force you to stay if you decided to switch anyway after such a credit?Hi ,

I'm afraid I have to agree with eskbanker that it's unlikely to work. As well as those reasons, the chances of you getting to speak to someone who would have the authority to make such a payment are remote.0

I would keep the 40 year old account regardless.0
