Hi Eco, we seem at crossed purposes somehow.:(
3x santander 123 a/cs = £60 k
3xLloyds vantage =£15k
3 x TSB Enhance =£15k
3 x BOS vantage= £15k
2 x 65 + NS & i bond = £20k + index linked £15k
1 lloyds club = £4k
= £140k
+ N/Wide, 3>5% Acs et.al
Your Lloyds Vantage and your TSB Enhance accounts haven't been paying more than 1.5% (if that) for quite some time now.0 -

Soon over the threshold for tax , even with the new allowances, and extra £1k in 16>17. with these types of a/cs.and her pension on top.My wages are way above the £16.5 k, and have similar Acs, so pay tax at source on my interest. And I don't class myself out of the mainstream Oap.:) I'm a shilling short of most on here:rotfl: mostly oap's I presume
Also many of the posters here have way less than that.ERR;;and forgot, our Full compliment of Isas, Toisa, and other tax free a/cs.Leave others, with better grasp of figures than me, to work out the amount.;):beer:PS;; that's before rates rise:-)
So, with all of that unwrapped cash plus a full complement of ISAs, I reckon you're totally untypical of the general population, or of OAPs, and in the 5% that will still be paying tax on interest.Eco Miser

Hi, colsten.I knew about the rates, thanks,I just haven't got round to transferring it to another a/c.I am consolidating a/cs and Isas, so I don't have umpteen a/cs.all over the place.
Upgrade
Lloyds Vantage to Lloyds Club ( looks like you/your wife have one)
TSB Enhance to TSB Classic Plus
Should only take minutes0 -
3 Santanders, is this between the two of you, or did you get in early, before they put a limit on?OK that's about £4k interest, but on way above typical cash holdings. Wages? so you still have a job - that's not typical for an OAP. I wouldn't presume that. Most of those with declared high wealth have also declared that they are still planning for retirement.

1; I/we got in early with 123 a/cs.I have 3, wife has 2.
2
No, I don't work, I still use wages, instead of pensions.Bad grammar on my behalf.
3; take your point about oap.s.
one doesn't have to be oap, to be retired.and have a pension. However, there's more oap's working after 65, now, than ever.
4;yes, early planning with isas etc, allows for better retirement and as I have decided to liquidate shares, for cash, at my age, and health, it has allowed me to help with family finances, and help the kids/grandkids, et.al..
I tend not to believe the figures bandied by politicians, bankers, et.al;"lies, damned lies, and stats", comes to mind.:) there is an election soon, so don't bank on anything they say.I am the proverbial pessimist, which, has stood me in good stead. The 5% was not my data,, it was the Chancellors, according to yourself.but, I still stand with the OAP's as a majority holder of high bank a/cs, that will pay the tax, if any on interest.:beer:0
