Faulty Bed - What can I do/say?

Hi, I'm looking for some advice.

I bought a kingsize bed online from monsterbeds with my credit card. I put the bed together and slept in it the same night. The next day I sat up in bed and the middle pole bent. I'm not that fat therefore it must be faulty and in any case even if I was of large build it's a king size bed and should be able to support at least two people.

I emailed them and they came back to me quickly saying they don't know why it did that and they'd send a replacement part.

I have received nothing from them since not even a reply to my follow up e-mails. It's now been 4 weeks with no contact from them despite me emailing every week as I haven't had a chance to follow it up due to being out of the country. I'm phoning up this week now I'm back but I'm unsure what my options are. I'd rather just have a refund now so I can spend my money on a decent bed.

  • Ok, having just gone to their website it now says they've ceased trading which is probably why I've had no email back...

Does this mean I've lost my money on a faulty bed completely now???
  • You might be able to claim back on your credit card.

I'd ring the credit card company and check.

for future reference, I'd be a bit careful buying 'cheap' mattresses and frames.., its one of those things where you tend to get what you pay for. Purchased a cheap mattress.., within a month it was sunken, purchased a cheap metal bed frame, supports in the middle bent.

I now have a not cheap solid frame and good quality branded mattress, will last me for years (back problems, not overweight I hasten to add lol). I've learned my lesson in this instance lol.

As you paid by credit card, your credit card company is equally responsible for performance of the contract.

This is particularly useful when one has a problem with a company that has ceased trading.

Have a read of MSE's Section 75 article.

Sorry, should've said... this only works if your bed cost over £100.
  • Thank you for replying! Will give it a go and use the template letter on here. Will let you know the outcome!

    I really appreciate your advice!!
