We will be moving shortly and I have £50 in credit in both my gas and electric meters. Is it possible to transfer to new home?
Would call supplier but just wanted to check if there was a precedent first.
Thanks - you are all individually beautiful.

Yes but they might do it in a very roundabout way. They might give you a cheque back in a month or so. You'll need to top up the new properties meter with your own money in the mean time. Make sure you close your account off so the credit is not left on the meter for the next occupier. You'll need to insert the key to update the meter so call well before you leave.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

It might depend on who you are with at your new propoertry, and what kind of meter is in the new house. There may be a minium threshold below which they transfer credit rather than send a cheque.
To be on the safe side, call them on the day you move out with meter readings as well as the amount of credit on each meter.0 -
Make sure you take pictures of all the screens on the meters and contact the supplier before you move.
Ours tried to make it awkward for us but we called their bluff by having photographic proof. They said they had to reset the meter but as we were no longer living there it would not be possible. We told them to talk to the new people about getting access to the meter as that was their problem.
We did get the money via cheque a week or so later.
Don't let them fob you off, it is your money!0 -
Thanks again - very helpful to get an idea before I call and make a fool of myself!0
