postcode doesnt give the se[aate flats in converted house , how do i change this

I moved into a flat in a converted house about 2 years ago. The house was converted to 2 flats about 50 years ago ie flat a and b. whenever i put my post code in online eg when buying things it only gives a option for the house ie number 80 not 80 a or 80b. the other houses in the road which have been converted have the option of selecting separate flats. i have just emailed royal mail to get this changed. Is there someone else i should email about this as a friend has said that this can impact on my credit rating if it isn't clear that there are 2 separate flats in the building

No need to tell anyone else. Snooping via the CRAs is carried out on a person basis, not an address basis. We, the people, are under no obligation to have any dealings whatsoever with CRAs, but when your correct address is ratified by RM you might like to inform your bank etc, just so that mail does actually come to you.

It's up to your local council to allocate separate flat numbers and they will advise the Royal Mail. Contact the Street Name and Numbering office (often it's a division of Planning).
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

what i find interesting is that the local council know its two seperate flats as i get a council tax bill and the flat below gets one. I just wonder why it doesnt show up online when i put my post code in and dont want this to affect my credit rating or something else
  • Council tax uses the Valuation Office property database. This is not the same database as the street name and number gazetteer that is sent out to Royal Mail for postcoding and then adding to Postal Address File.
