I doubt they'd not made some kind of attempt to contact the insured.

    You would be surprised.

The amount of times I write letters to clients and they just ignore them or bin them assuming their junk mail.

If you try and ring a customer, it's not unusual for them to have deliberately input the wrong number onto their quote to avoid receiving spam or to have miss typed it or to have changed their number.

It would make sense for the Insurer to contact their client to gain the full details so they would normally do this. However as the OP did not bother to inform his Insurers they will assume he's uncooperative and not spend to long chasing him
  • Does seam very strange that they are accepting the claim without checking with me first.
I am not disputing that I was at fault but anyone could have made up that my car had hit them and made a claim.
  • Think you misread that Dacouch? I said "insured" not "insurer" ;-)

They are checking with you 1st, you have the notice on your renewal, you can now dispute it if you feel that is the case.
The T&Cs do suggest that the insured inform the insurer in a reasonable time.
If you run into the back of another vehicle, it is difficult to dispute that there is a valid claim.

I've just had a settlement for a claim that ran for months and involved a solicitor. I was clear I was in the right, had a passing motorist give a statement backing my story, pretty watertight case.

The driver denied responsibility- without either me or my solicitor being clear why. His insurer settled on his behalf, very quickly after my solicitor really got rolling and issued court papers, with him still protesting it was my fault.
