No you don't need a licence. (Assuming that when you say iPlayer, you mean catch-up only, not live streaming).
I would recommend that you disconnect the aerial from the TV, and do not listen to Freeview radio through the TV. This is not a requirement of the law, but will help keep things simple if you ever have a TVL person inspect it.0 -
Just to say, I have Virgin V+ box and TV connected to it. I do not have a ariel, you do not need one to watch the Virgin box. I watch live TV so do have to have a licence.0

No they didn't.
I told you that he was found innocent on appeal only a couple of weeks ago - is your memory really that poor?
Here is the story in the local paper.

“This case wasted a year of my life and cost me in the region of about £18,000
And the licence is £145 is it not.
Now, on a money saving forum, I would say his actions are paramount to insanity.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
That's what you took away from the article?
What I take away from it is that TVL presented a piece of evidence in a Court of Law that was fabricated (whether by them or a third party, we'll never know).
IMHO, that lends credibility to the OP of this thread in claiming something similar.
Could you possibly correct your incorrect statements about Mr. Shakespeare's case:
(a) they did not have a warrant - he invited them there.
(b) they didn't "wire-up" his TV - the frozen image was superimposed on the video afterwards.
(c) no one mentioned live broadcast reception at the time of the visit, because there was none.
(d) he isn't a "ring leader". There is no group to be lead.

Indeed, when I said that Sky and VM boxes weren't a good idea for people wanting to be Legally Licence Free, I should have corrected this from before.
Sky boxes have a satellite feed (not an aerial), and VM boxes have a cable feed (not an aerial). A Sky box won't work for On-demand without a Satellite feed (and a subscription). Not sure about a VM box.0 -
You've learnt the hard way.
When these idiots come along, simply inform them you have withdrawn the right of access to your door stop. If they don't leave within 1 minute you will call the police and state you're being threatened.
The Capita employees working on behalf of the BBC are scum. Do not let this scum intimidate you.
My advice: go to court. Explain the situation. Don't be bullied over a summons, though if you signed the paperwork previously cited (why you did this is utterly beyond me, you're a victim of your own stupidity) then you're probably bang to rights.
In the meantime, I'll go back to watching my live BBC feed here from the comfort of the Land of the Free, all without a TVL.0 -
Hiya just want to add my bit on this i have sky tv and have not ever had a tv licence in the last 20odd years i have also been to court for not having a licence but each time told them i wont get one as i DO NOT watch live tv ever and each time the judge has thrown it out now the tv people dont bother knocking any more.Stand your ground you do not need to go to court but write them a letter stating what you have here and they should do the same with you.Dont give in and pay if you dont do LIVE tv.Replies to posts are always welcome, if they are done in the correct manner. If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0

Well done & good luck. Cornucopia really does know what he is talking about, I can assure you.
It has been a long & hard battle to sort out the BBC & it's nonsense - people like Michael Shakey have had some hard times, but I believe the Battle to sort out the mess that is the BBC is coming to a satisfactory end.
Patience will be rewarded.0
