Sorry but this makes no sense. How can there be a credit search before credit is asked for? I can understand it being done once a product is finally selected and monthly payments are the option requested but to make a search based purely on a quote is ridiculous seeing as many people will pay annually.
Surely they need to tell you before you click on search that a credit search may be undertaken?0 -
I personally always use these comparison sites and they've always shown up as 'Quotation Search' or 'Insurance' as the link from experian suggests that they would.
I have learned an awful lot on this site but sometimes think hmmmmm.0 -
You won't be penalised for using a comparison site.
Imagine the Daily Mail headlines.0 -

I do the same and I'm sure many others do too.0 -
I've thought it odd that they do appear on your record since there is no verification..It sounds like a major flaw since malicious individuals could have a field day with this.0

How does a record get attached to your credit record? DO they need a match on your registered address , name and DOB as if i am searching for house insurance on a different address maybe it does not match anyway?0

Quickest way to check is get a credit report and see if there is a footprint. That's the only way to be sure, rather than speculating.
As previous people have mentioned, I normally use random names and addresses so I don't get junk mail/email."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Do they only get updated every 30 days though i read they are not in real time0 -
I had the equifax credit report thing for 2 months whilst applying for mortgage and a loan, and I always got emails one or two days after using confused.com to say "a change has been made to your credit file!"
Definitely a visible footprint from them0 -
So who's gone to be the one to write to the Daily Mail then?0
