No frills motoring I would be tempted by a Dacia.

However I suspect the Mii would retain its value better.

If the OP wants to have a new car and can afford it I don't see why they should only.consider bangernomics.

Another possible choice could be the Kia Picanto, with the advantage of a longer warranty so ownership could be lengthened.

Cheapest car I bought was a Ka for £100 then sold it for £180 without spending a penny on it. Win win!

I would probably stick to the cheap lease deals Pistonheads thread. All you will get here is everyone banging on about 'wasting money on a rental' or 'paying for a car that you will never own'.

FWIW I think leasing is not a bad thing to do at all as long as you have done your sums and it works out for you.

To answer the question - there's a deal on a C1 i've seen on that thread this week that's very cheap.

If I were you go with a bangernomics style Volvo S60 diesel for around a grand. It's comfortable, can get autobox, has all the creature comforts etc. You'd much enjoy driving that than a brand new cheap/small car

Is there no DPF on them? I'm very wary of diesels - especially as I don't do many miles.

I'm with Forgotmyname, assuming you don't mind what you drive go for a model that no one else wants.

I've just bought a Nissan Cube, 2010/60 with 25k, full history, good spec and mint condition for £4k. Not many other cars of the same age, spec, miles or reliability for the same money. Hopefully we can run it for a few years and it will be worth the same.

If that's not your cup of tea then go for anything small and new with an offer supported by the manufacturer.

Running a new car is lot less stressful than a banger, no fear of breakdowns, no unexpected bills and no having to be car hunting all the time!

Well for anyone that's interested I have gone back to a banger. Nissan Primera 1.8, 2006 reg with 10 month's mot for £800. Some light bodywork damage, enough to be unsightly without going through the paint. Only done 60,000 miles and seems quite sound mechanically.

I cooled on the mii quite quickly on realising I would have a 10 week wait to get one.
