If we went again we would relax... instead of moving around so much.
In phuket, head south the beaches are great. There is a lot of organised crime in Phuket, if you get short changed don't argue about it and we had some issues after someone accused DS2 of being gay and he said he said he was to challenge them.... not a nice experience as if was a little violent (my boys are black belts... I don't think they were expecting to face resistance).
In bangkok go walking in the non tourist part (but dress appropriately with legs/arms covered and a cloth for your head), I couldn't go near the sex tourists/pingpong trade (just morally). we loved eating on the streets, the market in bangkok is massive and really quiet fun (wear full shoes because of the rats), swimming with the fish was great, and everything about khao lak, we climbed up some waterfalls, and was in a very posh hotel.
When we were in bangkok we had hired a private driver for a few days, we went too far north (there was political unrest) and nearly got arrested, the palace and the temples are lovely, we also had a great trip on the river (I think it was memorable as the boat/s kept breaking and another one would come and we'd climb onto it...). There is student area in bangkok which we enjoyed, it was dancing on the table sort of place!.. if you need any dental/medical treatment... it is so cheap and efficient.
Talk to the locals and enjoy it... and sit in the sea in the early evening with a bottle of wine from the super market swigging it out of the bottle........... wonderful.
Enjoy
Just don't arrange to spend a month with your son's girlfriend who you have never met, who is nearly your age and really doesn't like him having a family.... but still expect his parents to pay for you!...0 -
