Quick return question?

Hi, wondering if the more experienced sellers on here can help me with a quick question? I can't find the answer to this one - probably overlooking something obvious!

I was contacted by a buyer who was disappointed with the item I sent. They had misunderstood the description. I offered to refund it if it was returned.

This has all been done through ebay messages. I now have the item back and would like to process the refund but am not sure how to do is correctly - there doesn't seem to be an option on ebay to refund the sale on ebay (with a 'paper trail' just in case). Do I just send the money back through Paypal?

I'm a private seller, was selling some excess items and left my status as the default 'returns not accepted' so this was just a goodwill gesture.

Thanks very much!

Refund the original payment through PayPal. It will show on Ebay that this has been refunded. You will have to go through Ebay to get your fees back.

Thank you very much. The amount was small so I'm not too worried about the fees - was just a bit cautious as the return/refund was not requested through the 'official' process but via messages.

I'd not worry about cancelling it if not worried about the fees. If you try and cancel the sale and do it wrong you can end up with a defect.
