what benefits can I claim? ADD, SA, SAD

Hello. I moved location and I am finding my new job and life extremely difficult

Diagnosed with A.D.D and Social anxiety dissorder

At work I cant socialise or make friends, I cant actually do the job itself on the phone due to anxiety, working memory impairment, stress. I cant sit still without feeling like I have been hit by a bus. I get servere hypoglycemia symptoms throughout the day. servere mood changes resulting in anger, fatigue and irritability. I panic everywhere I go where there are people.

I am trying to address my problem with a gaps diet and it seems to be working. However I cant heal due to stress and difficulties at work caused by my illnesses

doctor is useless and whatever I go to him about he tends to get agitated by me. Making him almost tell me off.

I work extremely hard everyday and never moan about a problem. But I cant go on like this anymore. I need to beable to afford the cost of living by atleast reducing my hours at work.

what should I do? What benefits can I claim?

You may be able to get personal independence payment (PIP) if you're not claiming DLA or PIP already. This is paid to people who have care and /or mobility needs. If you're entitled to this, you can then claim working tax credits and then work a minimum of 16 hours a week.

  • Ok thanks, what would be the best way for me to go about this?

My job does not know of my situation or illnesses

    Thanks !

Before you claim PIP it would be a good idea to have a look at the process and how they assess you. It is not about the illness you have but about your care/mobility needs.

Have a look at this link and click on A guide to claiming PIP.

It is very difficult for a stranger to comment on what your next step should be.

You say that you have been diagnosed with these 'conditions'.

You also say that your doctor is useless. Perhaps it will be necessary for you to change your doctor to one who can help and support you. As a lay person I cannot say what kind of support you need but at the very least your doctor should be suggesting something. Have you had any kind of therapy/medication? You are likely to need evidence of this if you decided to make a claim for PIP.

I also do not know anything about the gaps diet but reading about it it does seem quite harsh. Who suggested this diet? A professional who had assessed your medical needs? Perhaps this is another area that needs revisiting.

Perhaps the job you are in is not suitable for you. Why do you think lowering the hours would work? Have you worked before and enjoyed it? What kind of work was it?

It may be that work is making your conditions worse and you need to find something else.

I don't suppose I am helping much :) but it seems from what you are saying that you need help to look at the 'whole picture' and not just part of it.

If you calim PIP it may take some time before it is awarded.

If you drop your hrs you may be eligible for help with Housing benefit.

Try putting some different scenarios into the benefit calculator on https://www.entitledto.co.uk to see how you would fare.

Talk to your work and see if there's anything they can do to make your job easier for you.

I agree with this if you end up not working you will be even more isolated and struggling financially.

You list all the things that you are suffereing from and also say you cant do your job.

Then say your work is not aware ????

The criteria for PIP is very high so don't hold your breath.

Extremely high indeed. only 48% of the most disadvantaged and disabled people get the award.

Can't help with the benefits but be careful with this GAPS diet. It is clearly pseudo-scientific nonsense.
