What do you count as a win (in terms of runner up prizes)?

Example 1 - If you enter for £1000 and they have 1000 notebooks as runners up prizes - I would count this as a win

Example 2 - You enter for something and get an email saying you are a "selected runner up" winning 15% off something or a small prize where you pay a small amount/postage (often considered on MSE to be a bit of a scam) - I would not count this as a win

Quite clear cut, but what about....

Example 3 - the current Zizzi FB comp for a holiday, but with small instant win prizes that can only be redeemed when you eat at one of their restaurants - I won 25% off both today and yesterday (given to 50,000 people), but I don't consider these a win

    1) you have to spend money to use it (although you can say the same about lots of wins I would count - where travel isn't included with hotel nights or tickets, for example)
    2) it is the sort of promotion they do often anyway and vouchers can be found for free on the Internet
    3) if I count them and continue to win I could end up with 15-25 wins for this month's challenge, which will completely skew the results

So is it basically a case of judging a win on an individual basis? Or is reason 2 (obtainable elsewhere for free without winning) the deal breaker?

Are you all counting absolutely everything, including "runner up" email discounts?

I would class a win as something you physically receive in your hand. :T

So if you enter a competition and get 1st prize or 25th prize it does not matter as long as it is a prize. ;)

Discount vouchers are not a win in my opinion, and those emails that say "Thanks for entering our competition, sorry you have not won this time but have 10% off your next spend with us" Those are not a win either :(

If you have to spend money to claim a win, it's not really a win is it?

I am sure others will have different opinions :)

Every time I have spun the wheel for Bob's Books, I have "won" a 25% off voucher.

I have not counted those as wins ;)

No, I don't count discount codes as wins. My wins are all physical prizes that I've either received or am waiting to receive.

A runner up prize for me is like you say one big prize and then a smaller one - not a discount code.

Have been out most of the day and hardly entered anything today lol so will do a few tonight. Won some playfoam stuff today though which I'm looking forward to receiving. Jake has additional needs and we do a lot of sensory play so this will be perfect

A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.
