Premium Bonds - what happens next?

Options
Hi all

I applied and invested £200 by cheque at the start of the month, cheque was cashed days after but I've not heard anything from NS&I.

Was I supposed to get something in the post at least? I was expecting a confirmation letter in the post along with a letter telling me I've won a million quid :P a week or so later but nothing so far.

If I wanted to add a bit more money, then what do I do? Their lines are obviously closed now but anyone here familiar with Prem. Bonds and how it's meant to work? Is there an online statement? How would I even do it without knowing an account number though...

If I filled another form and sent another cheque, would it be a separate account? I will call them next week but for now, if anyone knows, cheers.

You will be given a holders number. Then you refer to that when buying more. You also use your holders number on the Nandi web site to check if you have won. It's usually updated by the 4th of the month.

You can also elect to buy more bonds with your winnings (if any), a bit like reinvesting division. Even if you only win £25 it will buy 25 bonds when the minimum number you can buy is 100. Also reinvested bonds are in the draw immediately, whereas when you buy them they aren't in the draw till the next month (was three months many years ago).

    Hope that helps

As BigfreddieL says, if you invested at the start of March, your £200 worth of bonds will appear for the 1st time in the May draw.

I'm missing the holders number which I expected much sooner. I'll need to phone them I guess. Stuff like this I usually expect in a week or two especially when it involves giving money so it's weird I've received nothing. If someone invests a few thousand, don't think they'd be too pleased not knowing what's happened with their money. Cheers.

Register with their online service, it makes everything a lot clearer and all transactions a hell of a lot faster (via debit card).

Just be carefull not to lose your NS&I number and password (as I did) or they have to re-send your number and temp password by post (which takes a week). They wont authenticate anything over the phone or online.

I opened an account online, took them around 3 weeks to send my account number and form to sign, yes it's slow and doesn't appear very automated - hang in there, it'll come :T

I got sent round in a circle.

Called NS&I whom told me to call my bank (Co-op) to try and get the reference on the bank of the cheque which NS&I would have put on back of cheque when they received it prior to cashing it. Called Co-op and lady said I should ring NS&I... told her I've done that but then got offered the option to request a copy of the cheque at £5 so I'm doing that...

Why could NS&I not just ID me with my name and address then post me the stuff? I'm pretty sure there's a process for recovering Holdings numbers.

Maybe like Lakeuk, it just takes a few weeks but it's been and gone and when I spoke to the NS&I people, they said I should have gotten something already. Lost in post maybe. I'm not sure if I was supposed to take down a reference of the form I filled?

As for creating an online account....I will but it asks for Holdings number, which is why I'm stuck.

    :(

good news. Got my cheque copy from Co-Op. Found a handwritten 9 digit reference. Registered online so thing that'll be it. Well done Co-op for fast turnaround. They told me 3 weeks lead time but got it just in time for Easter. :D

Turns out, the 9 digit reference I found on the cheque was not it....

So I'm sending a letter to NS&I with my name and DOB requesting my holding number. I called and they said to do this.

Just updating for the benefit of whoever finds this thread who's in the same situation.
