Looking for recommendation Internet Access for laptop/phone

Hi all

At present we have a home pc and a lap top for which we have wireless broadband in the house. My husband is goign to be going on a course in September in England (we live in Scotland) and will be away from home for the entire month - he is taking the laptop and more than likely will be staying in a B&B that doesnt have interent access.

I have looked on net and seen about data cards but as I understand most are along with phone contracts - hubby is on payg vodaphone at the moment but we could take on a contract phone if it gave us a good deal along with the internet access.

If anyone has any advice it would be greatfully received:rolleyes:

You could look at any phone with either an infra-red connection (if the laptop has infra-red as well) or a USB connection that would allow you to use it as a modem.

For example, my Nokia N95 has an infra-red connection which allows me to use it as a modem for the laptop and allows me to browse the web as per normal. I'm on the T-mobile web'n'walk package which is the best out there for internet usage (upto 1Gb per month which isn't too bad). I believe that Vodaphone do a package that caps you at £1 per day usage, so it might be worth seeing if you can get that on PAYG with your current phone.

EVEN BETTER He may be able to find somewhere offering free wifi.

All J.D Weatherspoons have Wifi and offer 30 minutes free wifi with a purchase - just ask for a Wifi voucher when you pay for a drink.
Also, check out the list of free hotspots here. Just leave the fields blank and hit "Sow me the hotspots" for a full list:

Another list which has some free UK ones as well as European ones is here:

Also check out whether the location is in a BT Openzone covered area. Many of them are located in Pubs, hotels and restaurants. Works out at £40 for a 30 day voucher. There's a list here:
