After the election, where will the cuts fall?
Mr Cameron told us yesterday he had no idea but he has civil servants looking into it.
Obviously this document is ill-informed speculation but it does indicate some options
Carers Allowance ended
Tax Disability Allowances etc.

Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

Pension tax relief
Benefits for young people - but not the elderly
Local government and social care
Police
Fire services
Roads and transport
England and Wales
PS Why get rid of carers allowance - carers save the taxpayer billions so it would be a false economy.0 -

interesting that you seem to assume there will be a conservative government after the election0 -

Not at all, I ask where the cuts will fall, they all agree that there will be cuts.
This is just an indication of what the Tories have asked officials to explore.
I agree that cutting Carers Allowance will cost money. Taking money from the Disabled may also result in more disabled people going to hospital or more into care homes.
IDS is already peddling backwards........Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
The poor ....Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

People never seem to see the positive side of cuts which is that it will help future generations with a lesser tax burden. I can't understand how people seem to think it's OK to leave such a massive debt to our kids.0

Agreed - but there are choices over what you cut and carers should be near the bottom of that list as they save the state far far more money than the cost of carers allowance. How about dropping the £3k bung for the help to buy ISA instead?
Some cuts can actually be false economies - as they can cost the state more in the end.0 -
Current focus within BIS appears to be on Travel and Subsistence. Compared to the Private sector there's a huge amount of abuse and lack of control over expenditure. Heard today about someone today who lives in France but works in the UK. Due to their aversion to flying and other means of public transport. They hire a car then catch a ferry. In the UK they then use the hire car to attend meetings around the country.
Makes you wonder if the individuals such as this actually offer value for money to the taxpayer when performing their job as well.0 -

i feel sure that being averse to flying counts as a disability and as such alternative methods should be fully subsidised.0 -
... After the election, where will the cuts fall?....
Good question.
As Ed Balls has made clear;
"We have clear pledges. No rise in VAT under Labour, no rise in the basic and higher rates of income tax under Labour, no rise in national insurance under Labour."
If you're not going to put taxes up, and you have a £90bn deficit to clear, there are going to have to be cuts, and they're going to have to be made somewhere.
Has Ed Balls supplied any details of where he intends the cuts to fall?0
