Howard Cohen Solicitors - advice regarding debt that was passed on from this company

I used to have a debt registered with DCA Howard Cohen and Co Solicitors as far back as the late 1990's. I then started a DMP with a fee paying company whom I am no longer with and I don't recall seeing this company on the plan (although they were originally).
I think Howard Cohen passed the debt on - possible to Hoist Portfolio or Robinson Way, but I've lost the original paperwork so I can't check for sure... don't particularly want to phone the DCA. I want to make sure the debt is included on my DMP because I don't want any nasty surprises in the future
The trouble is, I've had these debts for so long now that I have literally lost track of some of the original creditors (I have around 10 - stupid I know!). I've also heard that Howard Cohen issue CCJ's, so I'm worried i've got one of those without realising (I've moved a few times since the payments started). Is there any way I can get information regarding this? I suspect I won't find anything on my credit file because it was so long ago...Can't wait to be debt free!!!

What sort of account was it?
May be able to request information from whatever DCA or creditor it is via https://www.nationaldebtline.org/EW/factsheets/Pages/39%20EW%20Credit%20agreements%20-%20getting%20information/Default.aspxFree/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

To be honest if you haven't heard anything for 6 years you're probably safe.
Because either:
if they haven't chased it yet then start chasing it it would be statue barred or
if there is a ccj and they haven't enforced it in 6 years then they would have to go to court and explain why, having had 6 years they hadn't attempted to enforce it.

Thanks for the replies. The debt related to a high street store card - around £1,000 I think.0

As DF says, if you have not paid, or acknowledged any of these debts for a period exceeding 6 years, they may be statute barred by now.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Yes, unfortunately payment counts as acknowledgement, and restarts the SB clock.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
