Worried I've got a CCJ in my name

Hi, I was wondering how I can check whether I have a CCJ in my name? There is nothing on my credit file, but then they only hold information for around 6 years right? When I was in my 20's I was stupid with money and accumulated quite a lot of store card debt. One of the companies (GE Capital) referred a debt to Howard Cohen Solicitors in the late 1990's and I remember they accepted my payment of £1 (I was ill at the time).

I've heard this company also issue CCJs and because I've moved a few times since then and have also used a DMP the company seems to have disappeared into the ether. I think the debt is now owned by Robinson Way (but I'm not 100% sure). I'm also paying a lot more than a £1 now. So I'm worried a) I've been issued a CCJ without realising it and b) I'm paying more than the original agreed sum to goodness only which DCA... I've also lost the paper work for Howard Cohen, so can't check my reference number etc... Any idea what I should do. I've just started my own DMP owing around £7,000. I want all my debts to be included with no nasty surprises. Help!! :(

    Hi,
Ok, if there's nothing on your file, then you don't have any current CCJs, have you checked all three CRA's ? If not, do so.

With a CCJ from that long ago, even though they never become statute barred, a creditor normally has 6 years in which to enforce there rights, if they have not done so, they would need to go back to court and explain to a judge why not, the judge would likley say 6 years is sufficient time, and throw out the case.

If your file is clear on all three CRA's, then you have nothing to worry about.
