                    Hi,
I am moving in with my boyfriend next month, he doesn't have a good credit rating, mine is better but not great so we want to work on improving them before getting a joint account.
In the mean time, I want us both to put money into an existing account which is in my name for food shopping/things for the flat/joint expenses that we would need to chip and pin/withdraw money for so it would be much easier to have 2 cards for this account. Is it possible to have 2 cards for one account?

I am not aware of any sole current accounts which offer two debit cards (i.e. to different people) - you would need to open a joint account for that.
Could you not try and open a joint account and just use that for the purposes you want while keeping your own main account separate - several banks offer basic accounts for those with less solid credit ratings?
You can of course have a secondary card holder for your credit card (i.e. for paying bills etc) - or have joint savings accounts which normally only need ID checks and offer cash cards (e.g. Tesco instant access saver).0

a bad idea to open a joint account with some-one who has a bad credit rating as a joint account will establish a financial link between the two parties0

People avoid opening joint accounts for a reason, not because they can't.
Very few bills can be paid by a credit card. Savings accounts are no good for spending, but a credit card can cover this. You can of course have a secondary card holder for your credit card (i.e. for paying bills etc) - or have joint savings accounts which normally only need ID checks and offer cash cards (e.g. Tesco instant access saver).
A prepaid card can be an alternative to a credit card for spending and is very similar to a current account. In the mean time, I want us both to put money into an existing account which is in my name for food shopping/things for the flat/joint expenses that we would need to chip and pin/withdraw money for so it would be much easier to have 2 cards for this account. E.g. "Pokit" allows several cards for one account and costs only 99p/card to get and 99p to withdraw cash: http://www.pockit.com/fees.
Also it pays 5-6% cashback on Halfords and B&Q purchases.0
