Car tyre tracking Con

This warning could save you money.
I have just had two new tyres fitted to the front of my car, wheel alignment check is free, I am told tracking is out 3.5 degrees would I like it adjusted £47, this I declined. That same day I took my car to two different tyre suppliers who give a free wheel alignment check and in both cases they both said they do not need adjusting all is ok.
My advise is if in the same position don't agree and pay up go elsewhere and get a second opinion. I saved £47.

    Why not name and shame?
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I usually find them excellent and truthful.
Last two free checks i had with them all returned as fine does not need adjusting .One of those checks was also after a badly damaged pothole wheel and tyre and i was expecting tracking to be out .

Yes I have used them a few times and have had very good service but on this occasion I am annoyed that they tried to con me with this tracking fix. It only takes one bad experience and for me there will be no going back.

Worst still, if they do the tracking and end up making it worse which I'm sure has happened to me in the past :(. Trouble is, unless you go around and get it it rechecked somewhere else (and who normally does that?) you don't find out until the tyres wear unevenly. It's difficult to trust these outlets especially as I find they often scare you into having extra work done out of the blue when you simply want a couple of new tyres .
The mechanic I use to service my car and van is often scathing about these tyre/exhaust places because he feels they tend to rip people off, in fact he's had one or two run in's with them involving his customers vehicles.
