Hello Frugal Friends,
Thanks for your well wishes. Lergy worse today so hoping it may be peaking & I'll pick up over the weekend. 2 hours sleep last night. Haven't even put any make-up on today, so I really do look like a pile of poo. Managed some money-saving tasks though:
*Tried to reconcile March's budget. For those people who asked me, no, I didn't find out what the extra money was, & we did end up with £250 more in our account than anticipated. I have now been through my accounting line by line 5 times, but simply cannot see the error. Good job it was an error in our favour, as I don't much like the other kind.
*Set April's budget.
*Purchased 6 months car tax online. Had looked at setting up dd for either 12 monthly payments or 2 x 6 monthly but they charge 5% extra for these options so I didn't bother.
*Paid credit card in full. That's still a nice feeling. Been debt-free (except mortgage) since 2011 now, but that's a short time compared to the Spendy Decades.
*Ordered new laptop. Ours has died & is just choking its last with the craziest stuff. The strange surplus money & my £100 stash of John Lewis vouchers earned from surveys has meant we were able to finance this without cutting back elsewhere. Click & Collect, so no delivery charge to pay either.
*Quick trot down to the greenhouse to look at my baby chillies & tomatoes, but no energy to do any garden jobs.
*V tough on cat today, who held out till nearly lunchtime in the hope of getting new meat. Ripped him off by poking 2 or 3 cat biscuits into last night's spurned meat & he scoffed it down.
*Postman brought me 2 Easter cards, both with unfranked stamps.
*Washed hair & let it dry naturally. I already look so zombified minus the make-up, I couldn't see the point in wasting electricity on having good hair!
*Did next week's meal plans. Mr f was quite keen on having a 'Use it up' week from the freezer, so I'm fine with that.
*Checked pantry & wrote shopping list.
*Did a few surveys.
*Packed bag of books for return to library.
*Read, possibly knit, but more likely to sit in chair by fire moaning. I did have flu last year, but I haven't had a cold for about 2 years, maybe longer, & as I'm really hot on hand hygiene, I've been cursing whoever puffed their germs all over me! Never mind, hopefully it might be on its way out over the weekend.
Bye for now,
F x
Oooh, good luck with house FVD.....exciting times.2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
No luck with the house, we offered the asking price but they still want to go ahead with the viewings they have booked this weekend in case they can get more, they will make a decision next week (ie if they don't get a better offer they will accept mine.) Part of me wants to tell them to shove it up their aris but it's business I suppose and for most of us our homes are our biggest (only!) asset. We are however amusing ourselves with thinking of inventive ways we could put off the competition tomorrow, I think we should sneak round in the dead of night and pile up some old mattresses and a broken fridge on the front garden next door and leave my car outside propped up on some bricks :rotfl: DH is more for spray painting obscenities on the front door (of course we will do none of these)

I won't be offering more than the asking price, the house is nice but not *that* nice and there is an element of style over substance even at the asking price. We'll see.

Ziggy - sorry to hear you are feeling low. I hope your mum will enjoy the break. And that you can too. You deserve it.
Foxgloves - really sympathise you do sound poorly. Hope you pick up soon.
FVD - Really hope you get the house. But equally hope you can stick to your guns on the price and not get dragged into a bidding war.
Carrie - loving the image
