Default registration each month

Hi everyone,
I defaulted on a Tesco credit card back in 2011 and every month Tesco update my credit file to show it is in default; but I've read somewhere on here that they can't update it every month? There should just be a marker on the date it defaulted and nothing after that if it hasn't changed?
I'm confused, can someone explain please?

I wanted to attach a screenshot but for some reason I can't

Original default date should not change.
A D or 8 each month after the original default are not new defaults and don't change the default date. They are just status updates.
A line/series of DDDD... or 8888.... is how they should show.
Last updated date does not change how long everything stays. It is all removed 6 years from the original default.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Once you default the account remains in default every month until you pay it off, it then it remains on your file for 6 years from the default date, your default will drop off on its anniversary in 2017.0
