Was the witness a passenger with your daughter?
All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.
  • It sounds like full BBC coverage wouldn't have been enough to make Hastings lift a finger.

If you can be bothered to invest time/Effort then you can take this further

    It's not just Hastings.

My OH had a likely "crash for cash" a couple of years ago, even her insurance co (more than) admitted it was dodgy, & passed it onto their fraud team, but decided to pay out because it was cheaper than a court case!

There's no point in insurance companys bleating about fraudulent claims costing millions if all they're going to do is fold as soon as court is a possibility.

My advice is get a dash cam... it might help.
Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!
  • Some insurers have robust policies against fraud and invest in training their staff the difference between the back and front of a bus. Others (case in point) just tell their staff that fraud is a myth.

Well ok, maybe that's not quite true but I'm sure you get my point.

OP - could you explain in better detail the road position of both cars involved?

Get your daughter a dash cam. Better late than never but probably would have stopped the scammer.

I'd report this to Actionfruad. They might be very interested in looking into the claims history of the guy who crashed in to your daughter and claimed for a non-existant passenger.

This may not be the first time he has pulled this stunt, so it is well worth reporting him, as is taking him to Court to recover all the money that this will cost in higher insurance whilst your daughter builds her NCD back up.
With all those witnesses to the crash, her case would be an easy win.

  • Slightly different experience with HD, but also negative. My son had just started driving and we were looking for affordable insurance; difficult with a 20 year old, as he was then. HD was one of the companies that we contacted, and they offered him a very reasonable premium, so we took it up. However, days later they pulled the policy, citing an error in calculating the premium as the reason for their action. We found out about this when a letter giving seven days notice dropped on the doormat; arriving, however with just two days left till cancellation, giving my son just a handful of hours to find another insurer and at a much higher premium. Disgraceful treatment, IMO.

    How come?

Assuming she has comprehensive cover then Hastings would have repaired her car and all she would pay would be her excess.

We're calling in the Police now. Its our last resort. I can't bear these scammers who are basically just criminals.

Odds-on they'll just say it's a 'civil matter'. They can't be arsed and don't have the staff to deal with marginal stuff like this. If you'll lucky you'll get a crime number and that's it. Good luck; let us know what they say.
