Wood Laminate FLoor in Bathroom?

Options
Does anyone have experience of using a wood laminate floor in their bathroom? How well does it stand up to getting wet all the time?
Thanks,
:)

Its not a good idea to have this in the bathroom, it will blow in no time.

I remember seeing a DIY program and the designer wanted to put laminate wood flooring in the bathroom, the people that sold all different flooring types said they would not put it in a bathroom ever, as david said above.

    Beg to differ.....

I have "industrial grade" laminate in all of my bathrooms - it has been down for just on 2 years now.

The people I purchased off advised that if it was well fitted (i.e. no gaps between the boards - glueing them is a good idea) and if the edges were sealed with clear silicone then it should be fine - so long as water was not left standing on the floor....I was sceptical, but as we were in a hurry to get something down I went with the idea.

My en suite shower is used at least twice a day with a bathmat on the floor - no problems in there at all. the kids are slightly less careful with splashing water around and cleaning up after themselves, but there is no major problems in their bathrooms either.

The only problem I have had with water is where my youngest cat knocked a glass of water off (nosey animal!) onto the floor and it lay on the floor all day in the bedroom - there has been a tiny amount of damage along the edges of the board - only visible if you know where to look.

The joiners I purchased from also advised not to bother with the laminate that is advertised as "suitable for bathrooms" it is only the same stuff as the industrial grade laminate.

The only place inthe house I have had any problems is my home office - the castors on my chair are plastic and have stripped the top layer off the flooring in there - making it look dull and scratched.

My advice is, so long as you install it well, buy good quality laminate, use a bathmat, use a fan/have a window open, and wipe up any drips reasonably quickly you should have few problems....just my experience though.....

Go for a nice cushionfloor/vinyl. Most now come with an R10 slip resistant rating and the choise is huge in wooden floor styles. Also, most bathrooms are small so you can pick a remnant from most independent shops for next to nothing...........

Laminate is ok for a bathroom, I would give it a 1 out of 10 personally. I sell both, and have not sold Laminate to a bathroom ........ever....
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!

I put laminate in my bathroom 3 years ago and have had no problems whatsoever. Just a quick wipe over if you've been a bit over zealous in the shower but I would highly recommend laminate. Obviously go for the grade that is advertised as being suitable for bathrooms.

    We've Aqualoc - only from B&Q special order - & it's the dearer one.

Done all through the flat & it's failing on a couple of edges, due to the bad fitting, in these bits , not 'cos the product is bad.

Been down 1 year now, but cleans up really good - it's called Limed Oak, so it's white in appearence,

Really does make everywhere look good, when we're tidy!

Hmm don't know really as we haven't had it but it isn't my first choice as others have said due to the water on it issue! we are getting a laminate, it's blue like water droplets..very cool imo! it has anti slip and isn't cheap but different!
Like someone else said the vinyls in wood effect are really good these days, maybe it's worth a look?
  • Laminate floring fitted in a bathroom is no problem whatsoever as stated on several posts above . Just follow the common sense rules of buying the proper flooring and make sure it`s fitted correctly .

We`ve had in last 2 houses and it`s been great ! The only isssue may be if you were to let water lay on it for long periods of time which , obviously , we never have .

I with Alfrscodave. Just make sure the laminate says suitable for kitchens & bathrooms.

I have just put new laminate flooring down in my bathroom (which looks like tiles so have to match the tile pattern on the board if cutting).

I got good quality waterproof underlay too.
  • Hi.

Best thing is to buy either Aqua-Step or Dumafloor. They are both totally waterproof and come with a 20year guarantee. I bought the Aquastep and it has been amazing!

i got mine from Timberland North Shields Webstore.
