Alcatraz Night or day

Title kind of says it all. We are looking to book the Alctraz tour. A colleague at work recommended the night tour but I wondered if anyone had done both to compare? Thanks

I've only done the night tour and I recommend it unreservedly.
Book it well in advance as demand is very high and availability is restricted.
IIRC, its much easier to get on a day trip, so maybe consider prebooking the night trip and then if you enjoy it and think that revisiting the same place in daytime would be good, book the day time trip whilst you're there.

We did the first trip of the day so the island was deserted (apart from staff) when we arrived. Once it got busier, after the arrival of later boats, the atmosphere wasn't the same so if you decide on a day trip I'd recommend going early

I did the night tour and it was great.

I think we went over on one of the first boats that's designsted as the "night" tour. It was still light so we got to see Alcatraz in the light and it got dark whilst we were on the island.

amazing place i done the day tour although last one of the day it was getting dark & was pitch black time i left , one of the highlights of my trip

I've done both and the night tour is the best - very atmospheric and the island is quieter as numbers are restricted. Take warm clothes for the boat going back.
