    I think it's a praiseworthy idea to set up a monthly DD for say £5 to a worthy cause - Cancer Research, Macmillan Nurses, British Heart Foundation - if you're struggling.

    Yes - charitable donations are tax deductible too so you can offset them against your savings interest on your tax return.

    Being serious though - if you are in need of DDs then those charities are excellent routes. We will all have a friend or relative who gets the big C or heart problems.
