Electoral Roll

Last year, I got divorced from my ex wife and remained in the marital home. The mortgage for that property is in joint names and is currently on the market.

I have moved in with my new partner, as we have got sick of waiting for the house to sell. My property is currently vacant. My partner rents from a family member.

I have informed banks, insurers etc that I have moved and the property is empty and so on. However, I was wondering what to do about the electoral roll? I am intending to apply for a mortgage with a view to buying somewhere else with my partner, and I am concerned that if I have a mortgage on my old property and an registered on the electoral roll elsewhere it will cause me credit scoring problems. Equally I am concerned if I am applying for mortgages in the next couple of months that a recent change on the electoral roll will cause me problems getting credit. So the simple question is, should I remain on the register at my old property or apply to join the electoral roll at the property I am now living at with my partner?

    you're overthinking it.

    Register at the address you are living at. Banks etc will inform CRA of your new addresses so in fact your credit history will look neater if anything. After my breakup i lived in a few rented places, always changed the electoral roll gained a mortgage no problem.
