Hi
I've had 5 months where a mobile phone bill of my sister's which was in my name was not paid. It was a harsh time of year for me 6v weeks after this my baby was born early and spent 4.5 months in hospital. Due to this the bill was over looked for 5 months.
This history is now stopping me from getting a mortgage. Is there anything I can do to fix it?
Thanks

Is it paid now?
Not much you can do, I'm afraid, apart from wait."Facism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you... [it] doesn't walk in saying, "our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."0 -
Yes thanks it's paid. How long do I have to wait for and can I get it signed over to my sister?0

If it has defaulted, 6 years from the date of default.
You can ask to sign it over to your sister but unless there's a fraud case (which there isn't) they'll be very unlikely to reassign the contract.0 -
Hi Natzeh,
Having a default on your report can make it harder to get the mortgage you want, but it shouldn't stop you completely.
If you have got a copy of your credit report you can add a notice of correction to the entry to explain why the default occurred.
Having a notice of correction on the report will make any applications defer out of automated applications so that an under writer can read your comments and then take them into account should they choose.
You can find out more about adding a notice of correction to an Experian report here.
If the default is also recorded with Equifax and CallCredit you would need to contact them as well to add a notice to their reports.
Our Ask james page covers the impact of having a default on your report when looking for a mortgage in a bit more detail here.
I hope you find this useful, and that your mortgage application goes well when you are ready to apply.
