    Can I ask if they conducted an external credit check when you upgraded or as you were internal this was enough?

    That is dependant on various (unknown/unpublished) factors I believe.

    Assume a credit check will be necessary to be safe.

    I believe they ran an external check for me... Both when I opened the account and three months later when I upgraded to advance. Getting that from hubcaps was the hardest current account I've done... Much more effort than any others.

    Sort of on topic - if HSBC automatically upgrade you to Advanced, without you asking, do they still run a credit check?
