'Adjustment after VAT' charge with British Gas
I keep getting this random charge added to my energy bill from British Gas which is titled 'Adjustment after VAT' and it is for £117 and in November they charged me £288. Does anyone know what this is for, I have rang BG and they just said 'it's an administration thing'

Could you post a scanned copy of the bill with your personal details blanked out?
I think I'd probably write a complaint letter asking them for a full explanation. A letter might find it's way to someone who knows what they're talking aboutChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
I am not sure how to do this as when I click 'add image' icon it says enter URL and the image I have of it is a document, not sure how to do this?0

How bizzarre. For the electricity it says it's a "Refund 21 Nov 14" but they're clearly adding it to your bill. Were you expecting a refund from last year? Perhaps someone has just made a mistake and added a debit instead of credit.
I'd write a letter of complaint to find out what it is.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
I know... And no one seems to get it. As I said before the sum was £288 in November's Bill. We were in credit before Christmas, but this still doesn't link up to the amounts shown, thanks Stator I will try but I don't seem to be getting anywhere, not even heard back from Ofgem who I asked either. I thought that they were supposed to be making bills easier to understand...for who I don't know0

As above, if you are not happy with the explanation (if you can call it that), raise a complaint. You can do this over the phone, online or by letter.
State what you want the outcome to be (a clear explanation?).
If after 8 weeks (I know) you are not satisfied you can take the complaint to the energy ombudsman.
I can understand why a refund would show as a debit - if your energy account is £100 in credit and they send you a cheque for £90 it will then be £10 in credit - an effective debit of £90 on the energy account, but you have £90 in your bank.
The question is, what happened to what is showing as a refund?0 -

Thanks SwanJon, what I don't get is why they charge me for refunds if my bill was in credit? I have sent an online form of complaint, so I will just have to wait to see what happens0
