Careres Allowance and Earnings

I know the earnings limit for CA is £102 per week. What is the situation if normal earnings are below the limit however on a very occasional basis the employer requires you to work additional hours which take you a bit over the limit.

My understanding is that you have to inform the CA unit and you lose CA for that week. You might also have to produce payslips. Would it be worth asking your employer if you can take time off in lieu of payment for additional hours?

Thanks for the response. The situation has not arisen as I don't actually work at the moment but I just wondered as some part time jobs specifically state there may be times where you are required to be flexable with holiday cover etc.

    You can do either/or:

claim for relevant expenses to get the figure down below the limit

whatever the excess income is, double it and pay it into a private pension policy.

I have heard of claiming for stationary, cleaning clothes, telephone calls as expenses.

It is a little weird that for say £2 of income over the limit you would lose the whole of one weeks Carers Allowance.

Once you've been on carers for 22 weeks you could earn a million pounds for up to 4 weeks and remain entitled and again 22 weeks later so 8 weeks in a year you can go over the normal earnings limit and remain entitled.

Its called a break from caring.

It you had an understanding boss they could save up your overtime for the previous 22 weeks and pay it all at once?
